With Marriott's Elite Buy Back offer, Rewards members can use points to reestablish their 2011 elite status, as follows:

• Members who have been downgraded from Silver in 2011 to Basic in 2012 can reclaim Silver status for 7,500 points.

Most partner availability using your AAdvantage miles cannot be found on the aa.com website. While American is starting to add more OneWorld partners to their search engine, currently the capability is not quite there and requires a call to an AA representative.

To search for availability, however, you must register for a Qantas account. Membership is free. (join here).

Fortunately, Qantas.com (a OneWorld partner) has a great award search tool and includes all OneWorld award redemptions. The partner routes include American, British Airways, or Iberia Airlines. The promotion offers 2,000 airline miles with every Marriott stay starting with your second stay. I think one of the easiest ways to earn free coach tickets is by setting your earning airline to British Airways. With British Airways you can earn enough points for a one way domestic coach ticket after 3-4 stays in a Marriott hotel (depending on your rate). One way short distance domestic coach tickets on American Airlines cost only 4,500 British Airways Avios points. With the Rewards Network, you typically earn 3 miles per dollar spent on dining at eligible restaurants when you pay using a registered credit card. Once you have 12 qualified dining transactions in a calendar year, you obtain VIP status and earn 5 miles per dollar on eligible dining transactions. With the current “Get Ahead Bonus” you will earn an additional 2 miles per dollar on top of your regular Rewards Network earnings in the participating airline programs, and 3 points per dollar in the participating hotel programs.

For me, I am VIP status and earn 5 miles per dollar spent. With this promotion I now get 2 additional miles per dollar spent, and since I already use the Sapphire Preferred card I get 2 more miles for all dinning.  Wow that now 9 miles per dollar spent just for dinning thru April 30th.

Global Entry is a program that pre-approves you for expedited clearance when going through US customs using an automated kiosk.

To apply for Global Entry involves some time commitment, and involves the following steps:

1. Apply Online – Fill out an application and pay the $100 non-refundable application fee
2. Schedule an Interview – Once your application is reviewed, you will receive a message in your GOES account instructing you to schedule an interview. You then must interview IN PERSON at one of the Global Entry Enrollment Centers. Unfortunately, there are only 21 of these centers and are all at major airports. If there is not one located in your local airport, look into scheduling a long layover at an airport that has one of these centers!
3. Interview Determines Your Eligibility – A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer will ask you questions, take your photo, and collect biometric information, e.g., scan your fingerprints
4. Provide Identification – Bring your valid passport(s) and one other form of identification, such as a driver’s license or ID card to the interview. If you are a lawful permanent resident, you must present your permanent resident card.
