"Mac" MacDonald is First to be awarded the
Donald C. "Mac" MacDonald Award
For Professionalism & Distinguished Service
At its August 2001 meeting in San Francisco, the NAPPS Board unanimously voted to establish an annual award to recognize a member who has demonstrated Professionalism and Distinguished Service to our association. The board also unanimously voted to name this new award after retired member Donald C. MacDonald. Of course, it was only fitting that he should be the award's first recipient.
(Editor's Note: The following comments have been excerpted from Ron Ezell's Award presentation at our Twentieth Annual Awards Banquet in San Diego:)
As I think back over the last twenty years, I wonder how many of us here tonight would be in business had it not been for the formation of NAPPS? Process servers who had spent many hours keeping an eye the legislatures to ensure that their businesses and our industry would still be there the next day, came together to openly and honestly discuss one single concern: Would the United Postal Service become the nation's process servers and what would it take to defeat this legislation? I believe that at that first meeting in Las Vegas, we shared some of the most important ideas of our business lives.
In recent years, the NAPPS Board of Directors has kicked around the idea of establishing an award for dedicated service, visionary insight and unwavering leadership. The 2001 - 2002 Board decided to finally do it. It is my privilege to describe an individual who the members of that board believe embodies these qualities. This individual started life with parents who taught him the principles of hard work and sharing ideas with others to help them excel. In addition to athletic achievements, he excelled at the art of music, which would later become a great part of his life. After one successful family business and some that were not quite so successful, the decision was made to try Process Service. While growing his business, he taught the principle of helping others not just to his employees, but also to the competition.
I personally had the privilege and opportunity to travel with this man and be at his side at many NAPPS Board of Directors meetings. I would like to read the engraving on the trophy:
"In appreciation for the uncompromising dedicated service, exceptional visionary insight and unwavering leadership for the betterment of the National Association of Professional Process Servers. He strove to uplift and inspire those who followed to rise above the ordinary and reach for the extraordinary."
Tonight, It is my pleasure to present this award to someone whom I greatly admire and respect. I ask each of you to help me in recognizing the man in who's honor this award has been named:
