The Docket Sheet
July-August 2002

It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that I must report the untimely death of Constable Michael P. Ferraro of Somerset, Massachusetts. Michael passed suddenly and unexpectedly on the morning of Monday, July 8th, leaving behind a wife, a grown daughter and a teenaged son.

It was my privilege to meet Michael over ten years ago. He had just been appointed as a Constable and was beginning to set up his process service business in Southeastern Massachusetts. We spoke frequently to share advice, opinions and marketing strategies and it wasn't long before we began to exchange work from time to time. I quickly came to realize that Michael was completely competent, totally reliable and a consummate professional.

In 1995, I convinced Michael to join the National Association of Professional Process Servers. I had been a member for just about a year at that time. Michael loved being a member of NAPPS and he received a steady flow of assignments from fellow members from around the country. He often spoke about how grateful he was that so many of our fellow members trusted him with their work. Michael regretted that he could not attend conferences and become more involved with the association. However, his was a one-person operation and he would have no one to cover his business if he were to go away. To close up shop and leave his clients in a jam simply wasn't a consideration.

For a relatively small operation, Michael consistently provided a high level of customer service, which rivaled that of many larger firms. In fact, it was very unusual for him not to answer his pager nearly immediately. Consequently, I had a strange sense that something was wrong on July 8th, when two pages went unanswered. I called his home and it was then that Maria, his wife, whispered through her tears that Michael had left us just a few short hours before.

Michael Ferraro was a good man with a high level of integrity that was beyond reproach. He performed the duties of the office of Constable with kindness, compassion and a quiet dignity. He touched everyone with whom he came into contact and made their lives a little richer. It was both an honor and a privilege for me to call Michael my friend. He will be sorely missed.
